106th Infantry Division Obituaries   (2449 Obits; 263 Unpublished)

Due to the extreme number of obituaries that we have discovered that were never reported to the Asociation, and the fact it would require many CUB's to print them all, we have decided to publish them all electronically.
This will include both those reported, plus the ones we have discovered.
Below are the obituaries known to the Association. If the obit was published in a CUB, the columns 'Vol', No', Mth/Yr' will indicate the issue of the CUB. 'Add' means not published in a CUB.

If you have a missing obit, or know the website of a missing obit, please send us an email.

554Jul., 1999ERBES, RICHARD (DICK)423/HQ 4/26/199924501 Woodshed Drive, Wildomar, CA 92593-9102 Reposed by Ery Szpek, Jr. son of Ery Sr. I Company, 423rd infantry Regiment, Dick Erbes, 423 Headquarters passed away on April 26, 1999 at a Veteran's facility in California, His sister Phyllis Nelch, 26269 Birchdale Rd, Sun City, CA 92586, came upon correspondence that I shared with Dick over the last several years. Dick's wife passed away the couple years ago. He leaves behind three daughters and grandchildren, who were the light of his life. In later years He was devoted to Col. Cavender, 423rd Regimental Commander (now deceased), and they had bonded in a strong friendship. When he was liberated, he refused to go home and allow his family to see him in a weakened state. He stayed in Europe for several months to build himself up so that when he went home, he was able to leave the past where it belonged -- across the ocean. Of course, not every GI could have used Dick's method of Yankee manipulation, He somehow came upon a blank pad of Army orders and being in a Headquarters Unit and was familiar with the procedure. So, for a few months he made up his orders and took an extended vacation in England and France. That is how Dick lived his life -- pushed every day to the limit. He certainly will be missed by those that knew hint.

721Mar, 2016ERICKSON, ALBERT C.424/E5/11/2014Golden Lion Albert C. Erickson, born April 11, 1925, passed away on May 11, 2014. He had wanted to attend the 60th reunion in Belgium but was unable due to health reasons. Like many of his fellow soldiers, he never spoke about his experience. While he attended the 1st reunion in NYC in 1946, it was not until after he retired that he reconnected with VBOB. Shortly thereafter, he received his medals and badges in the mail and briefly relayed the story behind them — still difficult even after many years. It has been through The CUB, other publications and web information that one realizes what he and his fellow soldiers endured and why it was hard to put into words. He was fortunate to live to see his great-grandson and treasured the sight of him. Many thanks to all who fought for our freedom and for freedom in generations to come.
